Society's Never-ending Debate - Who is Plus Sized?

The debate continues about women who are curvier, heavier, plus sized...whatever your favorite terminology is for women who are not Size 0-14, or in the fashion world, Sizes X0-4! In 2014 I wrote about Designers who were confused about what plus size is and who also didn't want to dress women who were larger than a size 0. Once again in 2016, this debate that constantly has us, full-figured, curvy women, being pitted against the woman who is a size zero or regular size is still an issue today because of the Fashion Models being used by Designers in their fashion shows, the looks of these women being deemed as Plus Size are just not plus size. These days most Designers are also refusing to dress actresses ( Melissa McCarthy , and most recently Leslie Jones ) who are not a size zero is such a thoughtless thing, this kind of insensitivity must end. Window Shopping Part Deux - What I Chose

As you know from my last article , I went shopping for swimsuit with my teen Mandi and ended up doing the same for myself. After all, I was in need of a new bathing suit. My last purchase for one was from Target eight years ago! And also during that time, I was the lucky recipient of two new suits from my BSFFL (Best Sister Friend For Life) who visited from Europe! So Those have lasted quite a long time!

Curvy Looks: The Full-Body Project - Leonard Nimoy

The late Leonard Nimoy "championed full-figured" women.  He wanted women with full-figured bodies to not worry about what others, i.e., society thought of their looks and just be the beautiful human beings who God created them to be.  He wanted them to "...be able to stand ... and present themselves to the world" just as they are.  How beautiful is that?! I can't remember hearing about this book that the man who in my head will always and forever be Mr. Spock, "Live long and prosper" , (had to write that out loud ~smile~) published!  Did you know this curvy divas?  The book is entitled Full-figured Bodies , and from the photographs I have seen so far, the women he portrayed in the book are absolutely phenomenal and defies the stigma of society's depiction of beauty . Author, Natalie Angier , who wrote an introduction to the book said that Mr. Nimoy didn't like that most women felt bad about their own bodies .  ~sidenote: we do that don...

Re-post: Bondage ~ Fabulously Curvy

To continue in the theme of my Christmas re-posts curvy divas. When I wrote today's linked article, Bondage, the title was quite tongue-in-cheek, but quite apt because of what I was wearing! Seriously though, the shoes I wrote about in the link below were totally worth it and I'm so happy I bought them.  I made sure all the links in the article still work ~whew!  If you love your style, and are unafraid to be yourself, HURRAH!  Being your authentic self is so important. NO matter what anyone else thinks.  Your style and fashion is who you are.   Follow the link and let me know if you would wear these types of shoes, (or, have you ever worn bondage clothing - the article is not about the clothing style - but what a great discussion to come), and if you have ever worn a...

What Not to Wear to the Office on Halloween

Halloween is almost upon on us here in the United States curvy divas, have you decided what to wear if you plan on going out whether to a party or just trick or treating with the children.   Last year I wrote an article that gave some good ideas on what to wear for this special celebration. http://fabulouslycurvy.blogspot.com/2013/10/halloween-chic-part-deux.html When dressing up, your costume doesn't have to be with a mask or anything that looks outlandish.  Do you dress up at your office?  A few of us are dressing up at my office this year, and I'm not yet sure if I am too, although I want to.  But what can I go as and still be appropriate for work?  Nothing sexy...no sultry dress up for sure! Sexy Nemo image from article written by John Cheese on cracked.com Nope, that definitely would not be appropriate in the office.  And I agree with John in his article...this is one costume that shouldn't exist! When dressing up for the office on...

Designer Styles I Want in Curvy Styles

I love Alexander Wang's designs.  His creations are on point with the style-looks I like.   I wish I could be his muse...if he ever designed for the full-figured woman!   I thought his "T by Alexander" brand was for plus size, but I've only seen up to a size Large- L. That hasn't stopped me from loving his designs.  Take this dress below, these are not from his "T" line.   The moment I saw the zippered neckline, I fell in want for it! The color, the lines, simple, yet so chic! Who doesn't love a sweater dress curvy divas ?! Alexander Wang Tunic with Zip Bandana SHOP And this Palazzo Leather Pants....!!!!! ~Drool~ SHOP This is the type of looks I want to see for our lovely curves, wouldn't you agree curvy divas?  It's not just about body-con dresses and how high a split will go....those are important depending on your style aesthetics - And I love a good figure-hugging dress too!  A great cl...

Love it or Leave it: Which Look is better?

Tomorrow, or make that later today I will be going behind the scenes at a model casting call for an upcoming event. It will be for Orlando International Fashion Week in November.  I will share more details later curvy divas. For now, I was looking for something to wear that will not only be stylish, but comfortable too.  Is there such a thing in fashion?  Sure!   Leggings (and maxis) are always my go to for comfortable styling .   I went shopping in my closet and found this pleather or faux leather top.  I decided to try the top on with both a black legging and a print one but couldn't decide which look was better. Now, ignore the messy hair, and I'm not even going to crop or clean up the look of the photos.    Option 1 is the pleather top with print leggings and ankle boots. Option 2 is the top with black leggings and my neon Mossimo chucks.  So far I have two votes, my youngest, Amanda and (her dad) my hubby, both lo...

What I Wear in a Day: Just Chillin' in My Cuffed Jeans

The other day when I did my article and off-the-cuff tutorial (no pun intended curvy divas) on how to roll the best cuff on your jeans , I had not actually gone out with my denim rolled up.  That was for the article.  Yesterday since it's been a bee-hive of activities for me, I didn't take these photos until the end of the day.  My hair is all messy and I was actually pretty tired.  But, the things we do for the love of  it! So, here's what I wore in a day, showing off my cuffed jeans! Denim - Old Navy  Top - Old Navy Floral Scarf - Vintage - from eons ago! How to Cuff Your Jeans

Would you believe curvy divas that I used to deliberately go out and buy denim with cuffs because they used to be oh so fashionable several fashion years ago.  I know, who does that? Well, I did.  It was cute and I didn't have to worry about rolling the pant legs myself because they were already cuffed for me, so why not?! I was persuing Madewell.com recently and saw an "How to" on how to get the perfectly rolled cuffs when you wear your denim. They shared this  after they noticed quite a few women wearing cuffed jeans.  Which means they were in again.  Were they really out of style though?  Or was it just that not too many of us were wearing our jeans that way?  I'm posting the link below. There is a trick to getting that perfectly rolled cuff.   I've done one even better, I've posted a video on my Facebook page on how to get the perfect cuffed denim!  The entire episode was self-shot and unscripted.  Do let me know what yo...

Fitness Wednesdays: How to Build a Salad

I continue to include eating healthier as part of my fitness quest curvy divas.   As I get older it is one of my goal to have my body looking and feeling the way I want, fit and healthy.  With that in mind, although I do indulge from time to time, I make having salad as a main meal three times a week, something I do.   I've posted some photographs of one such salad, it's a fruit and vegetable combo, my favorite!   Ingredients: Fruits: Grapes, Strawberry and peaches.    Vegetables: Arugula, Iceberg lettuce, Cucumber, Tomato.   The dressing: Butterscotch Ranch. How I did it: I gathered all my ingredients, washed and separated them on a dinner plate. I retrieve my container (for lunch) and then I layered each item beginning with the lettuces first.  Then I added slices of tomatoes, then cucumbers.  I continued to add each item until the bowl was filled with everything.  I then poured the salad dressing in a mini ...
