Style Icon: Rihanna & Other Style Notes

There are some  women who are, no matter what they wear, no matter their style-look, will always pull it off and look "like a million bucks"!  They exude that air of confidence and make no apologies for what they are wearing!    Rihanna is fierce, beautiful and confident , She has become the epitome of fashion to many people.  She may not be my size but the way she rocks her style, well, enough said!                                              She's wearing an Alexander McQueen Bomber Jacket Style notes: This isn't your "matchy-matchy" styling.   The colors and textures blends and stands out. Baseball cap on, sans graphics,  the black becomes a tonal/neutral color for her fashionable style! Bomber jacket is stylish, with a lot of  "punch" without being overdone. The top, a graphic tee shirt rolled and tied into a cropped look . Denim palazzo pants , to die for!  They are so long, and just has her shoes peeping o

What's the Faux Fix for this Celebrity's Fashion Faux Pax?

Remember when Actress Lena Denham wore this Giambattista Valli gown to the Emmys?   She ended up on the "Worse dress" list of most of the fashion critiques and reviewers.  While they didn't like her outfit, I really loved it.   I loved it because she chose to wear a style that wasn't the norm aka normal.  She chose to wear something that appealed to her sense of adventure.  She chose to be different. You know how that is curvy diva.  I'm sure that at least once in your fashion repertoire you went by your instincts and wore something that you absolutely loved, regardless of how it may look to others?  I know I have.  So I do understand her fashion point of view.  What she may have not done however, is wore it with the confidence an outfit like this requires.   By looking at the photograph below, I get the feeling she wasn't too happy wearing what she had on.  But that's my assumptions, who knows, she might not even want to be there in that mome

The 10 Best Mascaras According to Elle Magazine

If you had to have only one makeup for the rest of your life.  Or say you had to leave everything you own except take just one makeup item with you, what would it be? Lipstick? Lip gloss?  Facial Powder?  According to Megan Cahn, the writer of the article I read on Elle.com  who believes that most women makeup of choice would be the mascara.  So she has, with the help of beauty editors and staff from Elle Magazine, put together the 10 best mascaras there is out there for us women. How nice of her curvy divas! Of the ten selections she has made. I have chosen my three (3) favorite.  I haven't used any of these before and will definitely put the ones I like on my want list for this year! The mascara that looks so fake (but your lashes are real)! "The 'They're Rea' mascara is so good, it looks like you're wearing fake eyelashes"! This according to Leah Chernikoff.  Hmmm, no you see why this is one of my three favorites?! Who wouldn't want their

Curvy Looks: The Full-Body Project - Leonard Nimoy

The late Leonard Nimoy "championed full-figured" women.  He wanted women with full-figured bodies to not worry about what others, i.e., society thought of their looks and just be the beautiful human beings who God created them to be.  He wanted them to "...be able to stand ... and present themselves to the world" just as they are.  How beautiful is that?! I can't remember hearing about this book that the man who in my head will always and forever be Mr. Spock, "Live long and prosper" , (had to write that out loud ~smile~) published!  Did you know this curvy divas?  The book is entitled Full-figured Bodies , and from the photographs I have seen so far, the women he portrayed in the book are absolutely phenomenal and defies the stigma of society's depiction of beauty . Author, Natalie Angier , who wrote an introduction to the book said that Mr. Nimoy didn't like that most women felt bad about their own bodies .  ~sidenote: we do that don

Under Construction - New Look Coming

I've shared some months ago that I will be making changes to Fabulouly Curvy, as well as my other blogs, Foreverserenity & Serenity Beginner's Prose .  Be warned that sometimes if you click to read and the blog is a bit "messy" and you're unable to access it to read an article, just come back later.  As I strive for the aesthetically pleasing style I want, there may even be a different look at certain times.  So when I upload a new theme, if that's not the style I'm looking for, then I'll revert to the current one until I find the look I want.  Please remember that some of my links are not up and running on this current theme and that may also happen even with the new theme until the entire process is completed. Yes, I will continue to post new articles.   Thank you for your patience and thank you for reading with me!

Hair Trends: Natural Hair Spring Social in Orlando

Picture this if you will curvy divas, a beautiful and balmy Sunday afternoon in sunny Orlando .  A nice drive into a great neighborhood where, as you continue to drive you are greeted with tree lined, brick streets.  I was very excited to attend the recent Natural Hair & Beauty Expo Spring Social hosted by Natashia E. Ford and Donna Benton of Chase Ford Productions , held at the Winter Park Club House.  We were seated at round tables in a room with windows that overlooked the park nearby, where a bevy of beautiful ladies sat in all their natural glory. The stylish and colorful attire of the attendees was a delight and quite refreshing from the usual flip flops and shorts that have become a staple for some Floridians because of the heat and unpredictability of the weather.  I gladly helped myself to the refreshing drinks, fruits, and cool finger sandwiches provided by our hostesses.   The beauty expo is an annual event and this year’s featured guest, creator of Wonder

Love it or Leave it: The Jumpsuit

On my Style Want List for 2015 is a jumpsuit.  The jumpsuit became very popular again and it is a look that is still around today. I have seen so many different styles and would like to have one that will fit me perfectly. I walked into  Kohl's the other day and saw an extra large poster of Jennifer Lopez wearing a jumpsuit that made me sigh and whispered "wow".  JLO was wearing the heck out of that jumpsuit.  of course having a stylist and great lighting made it even better!lol! I decided to try on the two I liked the best, one black and the other a black & white print, both JLO's design.   While the black jumpsuit was attractive, and I loved the pockets, the fit wasn't what I liked. I felt it had too much going on.   The waist was gathered elastic band, with a self string, and the bodice was a deep V neckline with a small hook for modesty.  It was a jersey cotton material but it wasn't a great fit for me. I didn't love it. Th

Curvy Looks: How to wear that 80's Sheer Shirt Now

Today’s fashion is filled with a lot of sheer and almost nude, aka barely there clothing isn’t it curvy divas?   Did you know that trend didn’t just began with Rihanna’s barely-there dress or even Rose McGowan’s chain dress .   Nope, sheer fashion has been a trend for as long as I can remember. But as many styles that become trends always do, one minute they are extremely popular, and the next they are not.   The sheer trend is more popular than ever today with each actress and entertainer trying to outdo each other in what they do not wear from one function to the next!   I’ve always enjoyed having sheer clothing items in my closet because I find them really attractive as optional layering.   One such item is a shirt I have had for a while now that has been sitting in my closet with nowhere to go, until now! To modernize my 1980's sheer shirt, I decided to wear it as a jacket over my new boyfriend jeans and a tank top.   I was hesitant to do it, but pushed aside my

Manstyle: What they wore at the 2015 Oscars

I have always enjoyed looking at the many actresses who attend these grand award shows.  However, looking at how the men are "turnt out", is becoming quite an artform.  I like to see whether they made it a point to match what their other half wore by having the same color suit, tie, or even pocket square. At this year's Academy Awards, a.k.a. The Oscars, the actors did not disappoint, they were dressed in their tuxedos and made for some very dashing "tall drinks of water" walking on the Red Carpet before the show. Most actors would wear black, navy or white.  Very few would go boldly where few men want to go, wearing vibrant colors.  David Oyelowo was such a man! David Oyelowo in Dolce & Gabbana As seen on sacbee.com (photo from free-use search) Oscar winner, Rapper, & Actor, Common wore a Prada Velvet Tuxedo.  He quite a dashing figure with his white bow tie and white shirt. Style looks at The Oscar's After Party

Did you know that whenever the movie stars and entertainers have their big award shows there is always an After Party?  Yep.  They go to one event or another to have fun and perhaps party all night! For the few, sometimes changed from their gorgeous red carpet gowns and tuxedos to party gear.  It's also at these times that some will show their more fun side. One of the most popular after party is usually held by Vanity Fair. This year's party was hosted by Gradon Carter at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts .  Two of the beauties who were my favorite attended that event.     Mindy Kaling Photo credit: Getty Images – on Elle.com Mindy wore a Salvador Perez dress, bag - Jimmy Choo I love this dress on Mindy. Doesn't she clean up well?  I like the deep V cut at the bodice which actually is very beautiful on her. When you wear a deep V cut it is good to wear it like this.  Fitted just right so there is no spillage or overhanging flesh. Plus wher
