Window Shopping: The Swimsuit & My Curves

It has been a while since I bought a new bathing suit.  I don't like to do it.  You  know why?  Because much like shopping for Jeans, in fact, shopping for anything to fit my curves can be challenging! I was in the store because I went swimsuit shopping for my teen daughter.  For her a one-piece will not do.  It must be a two piece!  I feel her and totally understand!  Youth, oh youth - I too had a two-piece when I was 18 and I did get a lot of attention in it!

Yes, You can wear the Best ouf of THAT Dress!

I saw this really gorgeous dress online via keep.com (pictured below) and fell in love with it immediately. The color, the style, the look is really nice. In my head I am saying I can wear that dress. But on the other hand I am thinking about my arm and my shoulders and my back!  I've had this conversation with you before curvy divas, this thing that we do that eats at our self confidence and robs our spirit keeping us from being who we truly are.  Fun, loving, spontaneous, thoughtful...the list could go on because we are all such diverse divas. Curated by Keep.com via shopnoticemag.com Yet it takes one thing to bring us to our knees, we always think to ourselves, "How would I look in ....?"   just put whatever you want in that space.  I reminded myself to stop doing that. I am the first to encourage and motivate someone, but here I am feeling quite inadequate because I was concerned about how my arms and my body would look in that d...

Hair Trends: Rainbow Colored Hair

I've got a new obsession. Yes, a new one, rainbow colored hair.  I am fascinated by the women who are bold enough to do this look. I did my own bold look two summers ago when I went a very daring red.   I am actually antsy and really want to try pink and blue and green...need I say more? LOL!  Because I have to keep my looks under wraps (at least for the next couple of months) so that I don't scare the very conservative people I work with.  I cannot be really "loud" with my hair.  In my heart I am a child of adventure and do not let others bother me but I must admit there are times when "they" will suppress my spirit. These days though I'm happy to say that I'm learning to live in the moments and I am again learning to let me be me. So yes, I will find a way to try new colors and I do like rainbow colors! How exciting. What I do like about rainbow colors are that there are some that are really LOUD , and others that make a statement without be...

Style Icon: Rihanna & Other Style Notes

There are some  women who are, no matter what they wear, no matter their style-look, will always pull it off and look "like a million bucks"!  They exude that air of confidence and make no apologies for what they are wearing!    Rihanna is fierce, beautiful and confident , She has become the epitome of fashion to many people.  She may not be my size but the way she rocks her style, well, enough said!                                              She's wearing an Alexander McQueen Bomber Jacket Style notes: This isn't your "matchy-matchy" styling.   The colors and textures blends and stands out. Baseball cap on, sans graphics,  the black becomes a tonal/neutral color for...

Designer Styles I Want in Curvy Styles

I love Alexander Wang's designs.  His creations are on point with the style-looks I like.   I wish I could be his muse...if he ever designed for the full-figured woman!   I thought his "T by Alexander" brand was for plus size, but I've only seen up to a size Large- L. That hasn't stopped me from loving his designs.  Take this dress below, these are not from his "T" line.   The moment I saw the zippered neckline, I fell in want for it! The color, the lines, simple, yet so chic! Who doesn't love a sweater dress curvy divas ?! Alexander Wang Tunic with Zip Bandana SHOP And this Palazzo Leather Pants....!!!!! ~Drool~ SHOP This is the type of looks I want to see for our lovely curves, wouldn't you agree curvy divas?  It's not just about body-con dresses and how high a split will go....those are important depending on your style aesthetics - And I love a good figure-hugging dress too!  A great cl...

I know we're still experiencing the sweltering days of summer curvy divas but guess what I've added to my want list ?   A padded vest from H&M! H&M Padded Vest w/removable Faux Fur Collar The look is in the details : press-on buttons (tabs), zipper and removable faux fur collar. The quilt pattern of the vest doesn't look to be overly-bulky! The price is also just right and the sizes go up to a 24!  Go take a look over at their website , just remember to leave one for me too!

Found:The Sexiest Top Ever....How to wear?

I found this gorgeous top at one of my favorite places I shop when I'm on a budget, Rainbow.  They carry very trendy pieces for all sizes, which is why I love going there.  I call them my "Diamond in the rough" because they may look really cheap, but they will have some great styles, with good tailoring from time to time.   This beige/oatmeal colored top was one of those deals!  I fell in love with it right away.  I fitted it, and it's great on. But my dilemma is, how do I wear it?  With jeans, skirt, slacks?  Do I go with a tank underneath, or a jacket over....but a jacket would hide those gorgeous details! Note the beaded Y-shaped back, the rouching at the waist, and the cowl neck on the front, and the drape-effect on the back!  It definitely will be a great look.  What I am unsure about is the "bareness", and as I'm working on my arms right now, (running 3-4 times a week ...

Horizontal Stripes and the Curvy Girl

I'm obsessed with stripes! LOL! What am I not "obsessed" with right curvy divas?!  It is not about being obsessed though, I'm going to start using the word "passionate" instead, much nicer!   So, I'm so very passionate about stripes.  Over the years, since I was growing up in fact, I've always heard that girls with hips and too much going on with their bodies, should not wear stripes , especially horizontal stripes. To that I say...."PFFfftttt"!  What's with all these rules for us curvy girls I wonder?   I advocate for us to dress the way we want to and be confident in who we are.  I'll get off my soap box for now.  Take a look at my latest style-look, I wore these to the office recently, on Casual Friday.  I wore a white shirt under my dress and belted it. Belting it defined my waist and made me feel oh so chic!  Because my stripes were c ol or fu l , (summer fun) I tried not to over-accessorize.   f...

I'm glad that I don't have to wear a tie, ever.   Although I did have a very bright yellow clip on tie that was very stylish and I used to wear it, back in the days!   However, I do have men in my life that have to wear one from time to time.  And I do have sort of an idea of how to tie one on...I've tried in the past, when my son was younger, thank heavens hubby came to my rescue and taught him how to! Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue - The Curvy Girl Way

I couldn't let this exciting news pass me by without letting you in on it my curvy divas.   You know the irreverent magazine for all the guys (& dolls) who love to look at the latest issues of models and swimwear, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine. Each year they come out with the very best issue with models and swimsuits for divas of a regular size.   On this year's cover issue of Sports Illustrated, they featured three top-less models of regular size.  In the photo below are three of the top models who looked, oh so good with their bums being the main feature on that issue's cover. The original SI issue w/topless models The  article by Lilit Marcus, Shine Contributor on Yahoo.com , shared that  Swimsuit for All, a plus-sized swimsuit designer/company, was very clever and innovated in using four plus-sized women, who were quite beautiful and just as sexy to re-imagine their very own swimsuit issue cover the curvy diva way! The Sw...

Dear Curvy Divas & friends,  I'm missing in action again from my favorite spot, my blog.  I have had one too many things that are demanding my attention, thus, no new articles for a bit.  In the meantime,  I'll see you on  Twitter , Google+ or Pinterest, when I take an hour here or there for a quickie in between it all!!!  Do take a look around, peruse and leave a comment to let me know you stopped by . Curvy Stylebook: How to wear Leggings

Leggings is a fashion item I will continue to write about   curvy divas . Why?   It is a favorite go-to clothing item for me. It is comfortable, goes with almost everything , on top, with the right clothing, or beneath, again, with the right clothing choice, you can rock your style wearing leggings. Some fashionistas will continue to say, "Oh, leggings are not pants, they should never be worn outside". To that I will always disagree. One of the negatives about some leggings is the fit , they are like a second skin after all and will fit your body to a tee, as in watch out for camel toes!lol!  Not to forget dimples and everything else.  This is when you wear a longer tee shirt, or a tunic or even a mini dress over your leggings. One of my favorite thing to do is to wear layers on top of my leggings; this way I have lots of styling options! Being a curvy diva, I cannot just throw on a tee shirt and go, I will wear a tank top under a tee shirt...

How to's: Long hair to Short Hair in Six Steps

Have you ever wanted to try a shorter hair style but didn't want to cut your own hair?  I have so many times curvy divas ; but my hair takes so long to grow; although I've been toying with the idea of chopping it all off again! One of the beauty of my hair is I can have it styled with the latest hair trend by my favorite stylist using fake hair to create the look I want.  I used to do that back in the day when I was a major player in the hair extension-wearing-land. Today I prefer to don a wig or just wear a hat. Lately I have been drooling over those women I see in magazines and on television with their half long, half shaved hair-do's ....  Since I'm not going to shave my head anytime soon (unless I get one of those crazy-flash-I don't-care-moments!lol!), in perusing elle.com/beauty/hair as I love to read everything Elle, and found a great "How to" and thought I would share . Long hair....to short....see below Do you have long hair?  Have you b...

Can Fat be Fashionable?

If we were to think the way so many designers and retailers "out there" do, one would think fat is NOT fashionable. However, I beg to differ and so will you I am sure curvy divas.   This sweater, flirty skirt, flats w/tights...styled out! Sure it may take more materials to make clothing for the larger size woman, but what's wrong with that?  Isn't it just a matter of supply and demand? Pretty much as it is in any given situation to say for example, the demand for materials to build bigger houses, or to design and build a much more advanced and high-tech equipment or vehicle....should I continue...?  You get the point?! LOVE her style We know designers and retailers already do charge a lot for anything they produce, until their clothings are marked down and go on sale.  So what's the big deal uh?   We might be larger in size but we love fashion just the same. It s a good thing that there are so many beautiful curvy divas around who do prove how t...

Love it or Leave it: Anthropologie Dress vs My Target Dress

Last year I wrote an article entitled,   'The Perfect Transition Dress From Summer to Fall"    It was a dress by Anthropologie. The Anthropologie dress            Here's the dress by Target, a Merona brand plus size dress: There's actually a zipper on one of the shoulders, and the elbow sleeves or capped w/a cute epaulet button - Target buy here I loved the dress by Anthropologie, couldn't get that one, not in my size...so I was happy to see the Target brand, and on sale !!!! I've already worn it twice. Both casual looks. The first one for work on a Casual Friday, with a scarf a polka dot scarf and skinny jeans.  I also wore it with my blue Tommy Hilfiger platform sneakers. The second time I wore it on a weekend outing with my daughter Amanda.   I wore it with leggings, a skinny sparkly scarf and glitter hoops. I wore an arm candy of bracelets too .  For now,...
