Curvy Collaborations: The Top 10 Plus Size Models by GlamCurvy

Loving fashion for women in general, especially for us curvy women , I began to seek the people behind the scenes, the designers, and the models. Recently, Tanisha B of Glamcurvyonline shared the Top 10, that is THE TOP T-E-N, plus size women, models in the industry. The women featured were all beautiful and fabulous.  However, once again, the question that keeps raising its ugly head popped up again, "Is this true plus size?"  We won't dwell too deeply into that question at this writing (you can seek out that discussion elsewhere on this blog).   While we continue to ponder the true size of plus size models these days, I was very happy to see actual beautiful, full-figured women on the list.  On the list, Plus Model Velvet d'Amour (Photo courtesy of Huffington Post by way of Glamcurvyonline) Click the link below to see who else made this great list, and don't forget to browse other articles by Tanisha B while you're there! http://glamcurvy.co...

Will the True Plus Size Please Stand Up: Australian Model Posts Untouched Bikini Photo

Will the true plus size please stand up?   I've written about this before and it continues to boggle my mind.   I like that women are becoming more comfortable with their bodies and who they are.   We are letting our hair grow out, we don't mind having belly fat (not all of us anyway), we don't mind having "muffin tops", we are OK if our thighs touch , need I go on?! The one thing that we can't seem to get comfortable with is the monster that fashion designers have created because of their "vision" in using sizes 0-2 as their muses. They continue to create their designs on mannequin-type sizes, even today (2014). The article linked below (and at the title) mentioned model Robin Lawley, once a regular size model, is now a plus size model.  In the photo/selfie posted in the article, she is in a swimsuit, showing off her curves.  I think that's very admirable of her because she looks quite normal, and is a beautiful woman.   The article co...

Hair Trends: My Fascination with Red Hair!

I don't know what it is curvy divas , just as much as I love stripes, I'm drawn to red hair like a moth to the flame! I absolutely LOVE RED Hair! Not just any red, my favorite red heads are of the copper-toned and deeper red-hued variety!  Ever since I grew up and could color my hair, as I loved to do even when I was wearing straight hair, my color choice would be a shade of red. Now that I am wearing my hair in it's natural (non-relaxer) curly state, I still do color, and I often opt for... RED !  I have been in search of that shade of red that will give my hair the oomph that I want to have.  My latest shade of red have received some complements and it's a color I have used again and again over the last two months. My hair color is a reddish-brown combination and works well for now! I read Marie Claire magazine online and they featured copper toned red hair in a recent article entitled "To-Die-for Copper Hair" , showcasing a number of celebriti...

Happy Blogoversary!!!!

One year ago today, on May 30, 2012, I decided to start this blog.  It has been a roller-coaster ride!   My intent was to share my love of fashion for women my size and to also showcase fashion finds on a budget! Our direction continues to improve as we include more content, and we continue to learn and grow as we blog-a-long!    I started out with 7 viewers/readers/clicks (I'm still learning how that works)! And have progressed to a viewership/readership/clicks of up to 141 on a good article! It is great to know that so many readers do stop by to see what I am talking about and it is always good to know that someone out there on the Intraweb reads my blog!  I am learning as I go, tweaking here and there to become what I want this blog to be. Another thing I have learned is that posting photos from other websites can be tricky.  Going back to some of my past postings, have missing photographs, not a good thing!  I am working on prev...

Plus Size Swim Suit - Fatkini

I couldn't wait to share this with you curvy divas !  Remember the forever staple in the regular-sized closet, the Bikini. Then the Tankini was created and has fast become a favorite for some of us.   Now there's a new type of bathsuit on the scene, hello Fatkini!  You might have already heard about the Fatkini?   It is a 2-piece swimsuit, a bikini for curvy girls!  Created from the collaboration between Gabi Gregg, Plus-size blogger and Swimsuits For All, a swimsuit retailer!   It has become so popular, they've sold out!!! Wow!   It looks like a fun suit to wear, and the design is definitely very much geared to hit our assets in the right places!  Would you wear it?  I think I just might! I'm not sure I'm liking the name "Fatkini", are you?   However, owning our bodies and what we love about ourselves is always a good thing, so the name stands! (as if!) Fashion Lust - Want!

I was reading Rachel Zoe's  thezoereport.com, about Paige Adams-Geller's new denim capsule collection (found at net-a-porter.com for $239)   and immediately fell in lust with them!  I don't know about you  curvy divas , but I wondered out loud (to myself as there is no one else around right now),  "As a girl of size, how would these look on me?"  Paige Denim Edgemont Stretch Denim Skinny Jeans You know what I mean?!  There are some things that look really great on a curvy girl, and some I would never be caught in the rain in!   Hmmm, I own a pair of cobalt blue skinny jeans that I never thought I would wear, I have and love them., but I just don't know if I could pull these stripes off?!!!  Could you? I say if you can go for it!  Heck, why not, that is what fashion is all about!! You wear the clothing, they don't wear you! Also listed on  Rachel's site ...I love that she lists a more  price-conscious alternative...

Lacquered - Nail Polish Trends

I love wearing nail polish on my fingers and toes. I went an entire week without self-pampering...one of my guilty pleasures before the start of my work week! My daughter, Amanda decided she would treat me to some pampering and painted my fingers and toes for me! She started out with my feet, dabbing a really pretty coral-orange color from the Sinful Colors professional line called Summer Peach , on my toes. What a gorgeous color which so reminds me of warm summer days! She then used one of the prettiest pink I've seen in a while, Bikini, also from the Sinful Color brand! (sidenote - Bikini was her birthday treat to me recently)! A Top Coat and then Glitter nail color were applied....Glitter is her favorite! If you do nothing else this Spring and Summer curvy divas , add new nail colors to your wardrobe!

10 Fashion Faux Pas to Avoid

Have you ever made some weird mistakes when dressing yourself curvy divas ? You know, those little fashion faux pas that really aren't a big deal but somehow they are?! I've seen people wearing socks with sneakers. ..I've never done that one, but I can understand why some people do it. Well, sometimes the dust and dirt gets into your footwear, or dries out your skin so wearing socks with sandals is a must....um, maybe NOT!!!lol! I've had visible panty line without realizing it. Sometimes it is just too late to change my outfit and so I just roll with the best of them!   A quick recover is to wear a long cardigan, or jacket (which I do), or just wrap your shirt around your waist to cover your assets...which might just be an even bigger faux pas! ~ chagrin ~ In their Beauty & Style feature on sheknows.com , they featured The Top Fashion Faux-pas ! In the previous mentions above, those two fashion no-no's are on the list! First on the list is "exposed...

My Favorite Red Carpet Look MTV Movie Awards 2013

Did you catch the MTV Movie Awards last night curvy divas ?  My favorite red carpet look was Kerry Washington's!  I love her dress, and her hair and makeup were just perfect! Kerry's makeup was clean, fresh & youthful! She pulled off the nude-look lips really well!  Kerry Washington  via justjared.com This Michael Kors dress/gown looks really good on her and I thought it was the perfect look for the MTV event. She looked very edgy and not over the top, just perfect! Have you heard? The New Heel Height

Three-inch heels are making a come-back!  The usual Five-inches and up stiletto heels are still in fashion, but heels are going back to 3 inches! Get, out! I never thought that would ever happen again curvy divas ! I thought the super high heels were here to stay in like....forever! I went from wearing two inches, to three, then three & a half, then four and now I'm quite comfortable in four and a half inches....and yes, I own a few five-inch heels, and those my dears are quite a staggering height, even for me!  But I didn't dare go any higher!  I'm a tall and curvy diva titivating around on five inches at times in my office, towering over all and sundry, because where I work, only the few fashionable ones will risk the look, while the rest, well, enough said! However, when I read the news that heels were going back to the 3-inches of yester-year, at least for Spring , well, I wasn't too disappointed to hear that bit of news! Elle Magazine online a...

Technology in Fashion

After exploring sustainable fashion I wanted to see what else is out there other than the usual, and have discovered wearable technology!  I must say that this is very exciting! Being a fan of SyFy, and beholding anything futuristic well, I love the idea of wearable technology going mainstream!   Can you see yourself going to the department store or boutique and picking up a tee that has embedded into the fabric technology that can and will change your life? Imagine if you didn't need to have your cellphone in your hand but rather the clothing that you wear will be able to do all the things that your cellphone does ....you can say out loud, "Call Amanda" and suddenly Amanda is on the line for you to talk to!  Or "Do a Google search" and suddenly you're able to have the information you seek right in front of you? Well hold on a moment curvy divas, I don't know if that is all possible yet, but can you imagine if that were so?! J ennifer Darmou...

Buttoned-down White Men's Shirt

Have you ever worn any items from your closet three different ways?  It's not really that hard to do is it  curvy divas? That was the discussion on a website I visit often BeyondBlackWhite.com , I entered a contest for a chance to win a $100 Visa Gift Card.  My first thought was for my black knit dress from Kohl's,which I even wrote about recently .  I've worn it three different ways in the past, with jacket & heels; with a pair of dress pants; and with boots and a jacket; I mentioned this on the blogsite for my entry! I got to thinking that there are other clothing that I do wear in a pretty versatile way, one of them is   my white buttoned-down shirt !  It is a men's shirt that I love, especially because it belonged to my dad.  This was my most recent outfit with that white buttoned-down shirt: For Work: White shirt, styled with long black skirt & beige/khaki boots Accessories: multi-strand pearl necklace, ea...

Grammy Looks - My Favorite Dresses

Did you watch the Grammy Awards last night curvy divas ?  It was fantastic!   Part of the magic of the Grammys is watching the stars walk the Red Carpet and they did not disappoint .   There were a few looks I liked a lot, however, two looks were my favorite of the night! The first look, this diva can be a handful with her personal life, but her music is still rocking!  I love dancing to it and enjoy watching her videos!  Who am I talking about curvy divas?   Well, it's Rihanna of course! The color was a bright red, so apt for her personality!  The fact that their was this "memo" that went out telling people how not to dress, she definitely skirted around it by wearing this sheer number which although it covered up nicely, showed enough skin!   Yahoo Music reviewer gave graded her dress an A for this dress and I agree!
