Dressed up Thanksgiving - The Sweatshirt

Are you wondering what to wear to this year's Thanksgiving dinner curvy divas?   Last year I gave you a  few ideas, blouson dress, leggings, jeans with belted sweater, see the link here .  This year I am trying to be even more simple, yet I am also in the mood to dress up a little. Hmmm, what to wear, what to wear.....?  I was perusing purewow.com and then the lightbulb went off when I saw thir feature on the sweatshirt, "it" being the "trend" for Fall.   I've shared with you that I like the idea of the sweatshirt all dressed-up !  I think it happens to be one of those items in your closet you can dress up or down, much like your jeans! These three outfits were my favorite choices: This  embellished-lace skirt and statement necklace dresses up the grey sweatshirt .  I would wear a pair of tights with heels to add to the dressy look; or leggings with flats or boots for a more casual but eclectic look . What Not To Wear: The Doobie-Wrap Hair Look

I was watching the AMAs last night, it was entertaining for me because I'm a big fan of Pitbull and was so happy to see him, a Latin American in that forum on the MIC - Man In Charge. (Yes I made that up).  The red carpet was interesting, I saw some great looks and some not so great looks. I didn't see everyone though but man, now I'm glad I didn't because after I saw RiRi aka Rih Rih aka Rihanna on the stage accepting her music award, well, I almost fell off my chair! Photo courtesy of Perezhilton.com I did a double-take and confirmed that yes, Ms. Rihanna was wearing an unfinished look at the  AMAs .  So aghast I was, I even tweeted it: Donna  ‏ @ ForeverSerenity 21h Only # RiRi can dare to wear that hair look in front of billions!!! U have to be black to know what I'm talking about... # AMAs My comment was a bit more demure... thinking maybe she forgot to take her hair down?  I mean, really RiRi?   That's the look we black women, some Latina

Found: "Chucks" - Mossimo's Neon Hightop Sneakers

A year ago when I saw these neon-colored Betsey Johnson chucks on fabfitfun.com , I fell in love with them immediately! I love Betsey Johnson's style and I also love bright colors and thought these sneakers were so cool and pinned them to my Shoegasm board on Pinterest. Betsey Johnson Nexxus Sneaker as seen on FabFitFun In the article on FabFitFun where they were featured, they said that we (me and you curvy stylista), could wear them during the Fall as well.   Neons don't have to be only for summer , and I totally agree.   Fast-forward a year later - I found my pair at a consignment/thrift shop and immediately grabbed them up. The good thing for me was, they were brand new!   They were not from Betsey Johnson, they were from Mossimo, another brand that I love to wear, how perfect! I got the chance to prove FabFitFun right and wore my neon high-tops on one of our cooler days here in Orlando recently. They are comfortable and stylish, and not too "young&

DOFW Magazine Week: Ways You Can Complete your Outfits

This is the last in the series of DOFW Magazine week my curvy divas. Have you enjoyed it so far?  There will be more features from DOFW at a later time, but for today, let's take a look at ways you can complete your outfits. Whenever you're going out to an event, or activity, what would you say is the best way you can complete your outfit?   By adding an accessory item or two, or more...yes!  You can wear the "dopest" shoes you have in your closet, or utilize that new handbag (pocketbook) you just bought. There are other ways too, wear a scarf, it could be a neck-tie or a lovely body wrap , aka the Pashmina look, or a stylish coat .  For these ideas and more, take a look at DOFW online for: Ways To make your Outfit Better! http://downtownorlandofashionweek.com/the-best-purses-meganhyde/ Do you add style and flair or dram to complete your looks? Do share!

DOFW Magazine Week - Celebrities Style - Fashion No's

We all have had those days when what we wore absolutely made no sense.  You might have been feeling as if you don't want to be bothered; you might have been sick; or you just were having a bad hair day and decided to heck with it and wore whatever you put your hands on in the closet! Has that ever happened to you curvy divas?  Me too. I wore this earlier this year and realized that it had gotten too big, a bit too late...wore it anyway! While for us, no one really cared, or if they did, "Well tough luck", might have been your response!  You are not on the red carpet so, no. one. cared .   Not the same for these celebrities I featured in my "What Not to Wear: Celeb Fashion Don'ts article .  Read along to see who flubbed.

DOFW Magazine Week: Curvy Fashion Designers

One of the things I loved about working with DOFW was the diversity in the articles they featured. They were not afraid to acknowledge that curvy women love fashion too! I enjoyed discovering new designers, one of whom I interviewed for the magazine, Lakisha Livingston-Brown, the reigning Mrs. San Diego 2013 , who was also a plus size model!   She started her own fashion line Z by Zevarra , and debut a new website in October 2013.  Let me tell you, her designs are not for the feint of heart! You must be a confident and fierce woman to show off your curves in her bodycon designs like these. Read more about Z by Zevarra here

Whether you love to wear simple to conservative or cute accessories; or you may prefer eye popping statement pieces (I'm the latter), DOFW had us covered! Blogger Megan Hyde wrote an article entitled: "What's Your Favorite Ear Candy?"  She compared the best conservative or professional statement pieces you could wear no matter your style, to the office, and/or after work: One of the most exciting ways to glam up a look is with earrings. They offer a chance to make any statement you want that stands out or acts in unison with other key pieces..... Read her full article  here . If you're like me curvy divas, I love watching celebrity fashions on the red carpet. I chose this year's Emmys and the celebrities whose jewelry made quite a statement! Celebs Sofia Vergara, Jane Lynch, Maria Menounos' and Padma Lakshmi wore my favorite pieces. I did one even better, I found similar pieces you or I can wear, such as the piece below! Read the full a
