Friday February 6 - Wear Red Day

In recognition of our health curvy divas, the National Institute of Health (NIH) has declared tomorrow a day to wear red.  In 2002 the NIH created the Red Dress ® as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness.

Of course you can see why. The color red for our heart, somehow that color is associated with love and matters of the heart isn't it?!  Plus when you wear red, you are a force to be recon with. You feel bold, strong and beautiful.

The Heart Truth® created and introduced the Red Dress® as the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness in 2002

It is very important to remember to eat healthy, exercise, even if it is just 15 minutes a day.  That is a start to getting yourself healthier.  Heart disease is a silent killer.  It often takes us by surprise.  We don't recognize it until it is too late.  Don't forget to share this information with your best girlfriend, your mom, aunty, teacher, neighbor, and remind them to go to the doctor for their physical; make that appointment now.

Go to the NIH's website where you will see that lovely photo with these gorgeous women in red.  Get your best red dress, or suit, or jacket, hoodie...just do you and be healthy.  Now follow this link to read more about Wear Red Day and grab the toolkit if you want to perhaps, host an event...no, it is not too late, you can whip something up and celebrate in no time!  Or just think about it for next year!

A Re-post: Red Carpet Reviews - 2013 American Music Awards

Another post of mine that was a write up for Orlando Fashion Week Magazine.  It was published there previously.  If you missed it, I'm sharing it again here on my blog for the first time, with some edits for relevance of course curvy divas. A writer's work is never done! Let me know which celebrity wore your favorite style! Did you watch last year's AMAs? Me too!  It was one of the best with my favorite Mr. Worldwide, Pitbull as host.  Did you catch the fashion that walked the red carpet?  No? Well, pull up a chair and I'll fill you in. At the 2012 award show, Christina Aguilera was beautiful in all her curvyness in a Pamella Roland dress, unfortunately, she went overboard on the suntan lotion.  Last year, she showed off a much leaner physique in a white Maria Lucia Hohan cut-out dress with a high split on the side.  Her shoes were Christian Louboutin peep-toe and I loved her pave jewelry. Global Fashion: For the Bride: Bridal Week in Barcelona

Tis the season for brides, in fact, it really is ANY season that a bride to be chooses to get married.  However many weddings take place from Spring to Summer.  It must be something about the warm weather coming back, and flowers blooming with that scent in the air...could it be romance?! I took a  virtual walk over to glamour.com and found some really beautiful photos of bridal gowns in an article written by Glamour contributor Kim Fusaro , in her article featuring Barcelona's annual fashionable event, Bridal Week.

Fashionistas - What's in a Word

You have heard this word before curvy divas , "Fashionistas"?  When it comes to anything to do with fashion and being fashionable, I am sure you have!  Do you know who coined the word and how it came about?  Well, first of all I didn't even realized that there was a story to the word, much less it being "coined" by any one particular person!  I just thought it was one of those words that came about and became popular because of its usage and in reference to anything fashion! According to Elle.com's Culture News, in an article by Rebecca Moss , the word Fashionistas was first created by Stephen Fried. In 1993, Fried, a young Journalist was writing a book about the Model Gia Carangi, who died very young, (sidenote-have you seen the [autobiography] movie of the same name, Gia? - I did and it is one to watch)!  Stephen met with people in the Industry and wanted a word that would represent who and what they were.  Because models and the Industry weren't p...
