Sustainable Fashion

Have you ever heard the word Sustainable?  I'm sure you have by now curvy divas!  There are so many things going on in our own cities, and in other countries around the world regarding saving our Planet and leaving less of a "carbon footprint" because of our lifestyles and in what we do.  With so many people on our planet, our trash and way of life are catching up to us. You may have noticed Global Warming and other climate issues that have been in the forefront in the last decade!

You do know that the items from our waste that are being recycled are used to make products that we do re-use, as well as buy as new for our homes, and to use in other aspects of our lives?  Did you also know that there has been a movement towards making Fashion sustainable?  Oh yes there is!  There are companies, Fashion Houses, and Designers, who actively create, design and promote Sustainability in Fashion!  They use their skills (or seek out those who do) and utilize resources so as not to deplete or destroy the Earth.  The Daily Muse had an article about this very topic recently and I thought I would share it with you. I should also note that another word used quite often is Eco-friendly!  This means basically the same thing, doing everything we can to take care of our planet and by doing all this, we take care of ourselves!

Upon investigating further, the one thing I noticed about some of these companies and designers who practice Sustainable Fashion, they do carry or create plus sized fashion!  I was pretty impressed with that fact!  The only drawback was a few of them were out of the sizes for some of the designs that I liked, which possibly meant they didn't carry a whole lot of the larger sizes.  Possibly if you were interested and wanted to order something from one of these online sites, you could contact them to find out when the style you wanted would be available.

The fashions and designs listed on some of the websites are geared towards the US and different countries in the world. So be sure to select your country/region so that you can see the correct cost of the clothing you are viewing!  The Muse's Meredith Duncan shared her list of 11 Sustainable Fashion Buys - (and other items) she wanted to have in her closet for this Fall/Winter season.  I loved her choices, which included:

This Sheath Dress from Fashion Conscience. I love sheath dresses because of their versatility! Worn with a jacket, cardigan or on its own, this style is always a good wear for most body types!
from the website: http://www.fashion-conscience.com/about/

She also loved this coat from JP Select!  Let me tell you, I really love the style and look of this coat!  The color, in Coco, is amazing!  The price is high-end but if you can afford it, from the looks of this coat and the description, you won't regret it! Love!

from jpselects.com - $440.00

A pair of skinny dark wash blue jeans from Reuse!  You've heard about boots that were made for walking? From the look of them, these jeans were made to fit your every curve!

from reusejeans.com - $95.00

Ms. Duncan also listed a great looking statement bag that also goes cross-body (you can never go wrong with one of these); clutches, great for a night out, shoes; and soaps, yes, soaps!  Go take a look at her list to see all the items she listed!  Copy and paste the link below into your browser.

Vintage Vogue

In March of 2012 before I decided to create this blog, I shared my love for Vogue magazine on my d-foreverserenity blog with the article I am super-imposing below. I have this "thing" for magazines. I won't say obsession...I love the glossy pages, the colors, and usually read them from cover to cover....! I had so many magazines piled up, I had to get rid of them...and yes, regretted it the minute I did! Anyway, I'm so glad there are online choices now!!!! Takes up less place in my bedroom!lol! I have saved some of my favorite issues, and shared some style inspiration and observation below. These were my  favorite looks from a  Vogue  magazine issue from August 2006 , six years ago in the past, I know, but I have tons of mags and I love  flipping  through the pages!  These  looks are so fresh today !!  Vogue  featured the color combination of  "The  Red  is the new Black" - red being the new black at the time!
