My Favorite Looks at the Oscars & Random Style Notes

Did you catch the styles on the Oscar's Red Carpet this past week curvy divas?  I did too.  My overall favorite look was worn by an actress who knows how to "kick-ass" in her movies, did just that at the Oscars.  Scarlett Johansson wore a gorgeous green Atelier Versace gown and her statement necklace was a beautiful compliment to her entire look - made a perfect style note!

She also wore two different style earrings, nope, they didn't match. You go girl!

Oprah Winfrey was very elegant in her Vera Wang gown.  I love the color, and the detailing on the bodice of the dress accentuated her shape very nicely. Style note - sheer sleeves.

Actress Meryl Streep's style sense never goes the traditional route.  Her looks over the years at the various award shows has always been quite eclectic because she often wears her own look and “marches to the beat of her own drum”.  Style note - she accentuated her waist with a broad belt, and the length of the jacket balances that of the skirt.

Octavia Spencer wore Tadashi Shoji design, and once again, it was a winner!  It’s very elegantly designed and I’m guessing very couture.  Style note - I love the ruching at the waistline which accentuates her waist and the train complements the dress quite well.

Viola Davis was stunning and her natural hair was a great accessory!  Yes!   Style note - the statement necklace.

How can I not mention Jennifer Lopez?  She was a vision in Elie Saab!  Did you see that her dress was matched to perfection to her skin, and even her hair! Style note - the belted waistline.

These were my favorite looks on the red carpet at the Oscars.  Did I mention your favorite?  If not, who did I miss?

Backstage at OIFW Model Casting Call

On Saturday, yesterday in fact, I had the pleasure of attending a casting call for models , an event organized and hosted by Fierce Entertainment Management for their upcoming Orlando International Fashion Week, November  2-8, 2014 . Attendees at the event were welcomed by Fierce Entertainment's, Rob Henlon who then handed the program over to the vivacious Kristania Vielot who instructed the aspiring models for their walk down the runway, strutting their stuff for the designers and other members of the Fierce team. As the models strutted to the sound of the music-mix pumping, guests sipped and ate refreshments that were provided.   Before they walked the impromptu runway, I had a little  tête-à-tête   with three of the young models, Logan-9, Ashley-6 and Aiden-4,  beautiful, cute, and adorable , (who won't want me to call them that, but I am because they were) whose future will lead them to become what they dream of!   ...

Window Shopping Part Deux - What I Chose

As you know from my last article , I went shopping for swimsuit with my teen Mandi and ended up doing the same for myself. After all, I was in need of a new bathing suit. My last purchase for one was from Target eight years ago! And also during that time, I was the lucky recipient of two new suits from my BSFFL (Best Sister Friend For Life) who visited from Europe! So Those have lasted quite a long time!

Shoes, Fabulous Shoes!

There's nothing like a great pair of shoes that finishes an outfit.  You can have on the most darling outfit, but if you don't have the right shoes to go with it, well, somehow you end up feeling like, "Meh", to quote the perfect noncommittal, blah expression! Men of the world, there's one thing you must know, shoes makes the outfit, that's why we women have a variety of  them! In  my quest for nude-colored shoes this season, here are two looks I love from Elle.com "Best Spring Heels" feature. Suede wide-strap wedges from the Gap - $89.99 [Mark  Platt photo] You can never go wrong with Platforms!  If you love having a high heel without the stilts, wedges are the way to go! Paulina Cork Sandal heels from Bebe - $98.00 [Mark Platt photo] Although the linked article is from last year, the color and style are pretty on point for today's look!  The height of the heel is balanced by the platform at the base of the shoe.  Take ...
