What does a Curvy Girl Need? Designer Fashion or Mainstream Designer?

I hear the cries about us curvy women not putting our money where the designer fashions are when they do deem to create for our size. Seriously? Like what size?  A size 10, 12, 14, 16 - L,XL?  Where are the sizes 18, 20, 22, 24, 26 and even higher? Because there are full-figured women out there who needs to look good too.

And don't get me started on those who think a designer shouldn't create for me because I can't afford it. You're probably right on that front. I can't afford to drop $1000 on a shirt like it's hot potato. Nope, never have and never will!  I'm sure many women out there won't do that either because some of us just don't have that type of disposable income.

However, we do want to look good, we do love to shop, (maybe not everyday) and we do love a good sale, what's wrong with that? Hmmmm...seems a lot to think about my curvy divas.  I'll share more in upcoming articles. To kick this off though there's a question I want to ask, as in the title of this piece.

What do we need when it comes to our clothing?  Do we want the Marc Jacobs of the world to design for us?  Or would any mainstream, as in non-label, non-name-brand, non-associated designer do just fine?  Are we too cheap?  Do we get in our own way and everyone run from our industry because we don't know what we want?

Leave me a comment and let me what your thoughts are on this.

A Re-post: Red Carpet Reviews - 2013 American Music Awards

Another post of mine that was a write up for Orlando Fashion Week Magazine.  It was published there previously.  If you missed it, I'm sharing it again here on my blog for the first time, with some edits for relevance of course curvy divas. A writer's work is never done! Let me know which celebrity wore your favorite style! Did you watch last year's AMAs? Me too!  It was one of the best with my favorite Mr. Worldwide, Pitbull as host.  Did you catch the fashion that walked the red carpet?  No? Well, pull up a chair and I'll fill you in. At the 2012 award show, Christina Aguilera was beautiful in all her curvyness in a Pamella Roland dress, unfortunately, she went overboard on the suntan lotion.  Last year, she showed off a much leaner physique in a white Maria Lucia Hohan cut-out dress with a high split on the side.  Her shoes were Christian Louboutin peep-toe and I loved her pave jewelry. Fashionistas - What's in a Word

You have heard this word before curvy divas , "Fashionistas"?  When it comes to anything to do with fashion and being fashionable, I am sure you have!  Do you know who coined the word and how it came about?  Well, first of all I didn't even realized that there was a story to the word, much less it being "coined" by any one particular person!  I just thought it was one of those words that came about and became popular because of its usage and in reference to anything fashion! According to Elle.com's Culture News, in an article by Rebecca Moss , the word Fashionistas was first created by Stephen Fried. In 1993, Fried, a young Journalist was writing a book about the Model Gia Carangi, who died very young, (sidenote-have you seen the [autobiography] movie of the same name, Gia? - I did and it is one to watch)!  Stephen met with people in the Industry and wanted a word that would represent who and what they were.  Because models and the Industry weren't p...

Global Fashion: For the Bride: Bridal Week in Barcelona

Tis the season for brides, in fact, it really is ANY season that a bride to be chooses to get married.  However many weddings take place from Spring to Summer.  It must be something about the warm weather coming back, and flowers blooming with that scent in the air...could it be romance?! I took a  virtual walk over to glamour.com and found some really beautiful photos of bridal gowns in an article written by Glamour contributor Kim Fusaro , in her article featuring Barcelona's annual fashionable event, Bridal Week.
