Will the True Plus Size Please Stand Up: Australian Model Posts Untouched Bikini Photo

Will the true plus size please stand up?  I've written about this before and it continues to boggle my mind.  I like that women are becoming more comfortable with their bodies and who they are.  We are letting our hair grow out, we don't mind having belly fat (not all of us anyway), we don't mind having "muffin tops", we are OK if our thighs touch, need I go on?!

The one thing that we can't seem to get comfortable with is the monster that fashion designers have created because of their "vision" in using sizes 0-2 as their muses. They continue to create their designs on mannequin-type sizes, even today (2014).

The article linked below (and at the title) mentioned model Robin Lawley, once a regular size model, is now a plus size model.  In the photo/selfie posted in the article, she is in a swimsuit, showing off her curves.  I think that's very admirable of her because she looks quite normal, and is a beautiful woman.  The article continues that she's a plus size model and is also a plus size designer.......what?

Ummmm.......once again I'm left speechless, shaking my head. What bothers me is that the fashion industry continues to convince society at large that a size 8-12 are plus sizes.  Why?  Because they are not a size 0-2?   Seriously?!!!! It continues to bother me because when a larger size woman is trying to get into the world of plus size fashion, she might be told she doesn't look the part. Or she won't be accepted because she doesn't fit the "plus-size ideal".  That ideal continues to be their perfect woman with just a slightly heavier built/body; this seems to be the norm for plus sizes these days!!!!

Can we get beyond this?  Will we be able to stop this expectation? Will the designers/scouts/agencies continue to dictate who or what we are supposed to be?  Will they continue to shove at us the ideal we should look up to?  Only time will tell.

What are your thoughts on this curvy divas?

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
