Selfie: The Art of Taking Selfshots

I often have to take my own photographs when I want to post pictures of myself on my blogs as I do on my "My Looks" page. I do get help sometimes from my hubby, or my youngest, Amanda.  Lately, she has become my little videographer for a future project I'm working on.  But for the most part when I want a photograph of myself, it's a "selfie" shot 95% of the time.

I'm happy when the pictures come out great and I look amazing.   Sometimes however, they are not so great, especially when it's a headless shot, or one that I don't particularly like.  I do try to take a good picture after all, we all can't be Hallie Berry.   I read an article on iVillage.com, entitled "How to take better pictures, and be More Photogenic" that I wanted to share with you curvy divas.

As Madonna said in one of her songs, "Strike a pose" - according to the article, this is what you should be doing, you should practice your pose.  Do practice until you find a pose you like.

If you don't want to look twice your size, you'll have to learn how to pose so you have a slimmer profile.  Channel your inner-model and twist your body until you find the perfect look. Just don't fall over while doing it!

I remember in some of my selfies, my head is down, or they look so bad they go to the scrap pile. I'm supposed to tilt my head.  I do try to tilt my head all of the time but there are times when that doesn't happen though. So remember to do it.

You should turn the flash off, but I say it depends on the lighting you use.  And you're supposed to get rid of the shine on your face. Oh boy. There are times when it's as if you could possibly see your reflection in mine.  So, get rid of that shine before you snap that selfie!

You're also supposed to hydrate, as in drink plenty of water, yes, you have to put that cocktail drink down. Although sometimes those lushful moments can make for some crazy-fun selfies!lol! Above all else, smile.  I do a grin because I need to do something about my smile.  If you can't show your 'baby whites', then think of something that you love that will put a pleasant look on your face and snap away!

The GIF image below is from Google+'s Awesome Photos.  Each time that I snap photos with my cellphone, they go to my Google+ account and Awesome Photos (that's what it's called) will put together five or more random shots into a GIF, a movie, or some other awesome-ly enhanced production and I love it!

If you're not on Google+ do join now because it rocks! And I'll add you to my "inner circle"! If for nothing else, you get some great selfies! Will what you have learned here help you with your next selfie?  Let me know.

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
