MagRags: Cover Stories - Diversity in Action

I love it when I see diversity at play in the media. We are so use to seeing the same vision for each magazines, "the type" that have been showcased month after month, and year after year on the covers of their publications.  It was wonderful to see September issues of major magazines featuring African American celebrities, singers and models as their cover feature.

What made it so special you may wonder? Well, it wasn't Black History Month. There were more than one magazines, and not just the usual Black magazine who did this.

While Ebony Magazine, an African American publication would usually feature celebs and/or entertainers, they featured a bevy of beautiful models on their cover! The diversity in the models showed the diversity in our Race too and was beautiful to see. I hoped there would be a Plus sized model included, but alas.

Another well-known and read African American magazine, Essence Magazine, featured the very beautiful and talented newly appointed Principal Dancer Misty Copeland. She is the first African American to be chosen as such for the American Ballet Company.

Actress Kerry Washington was featured on Self Magazine showing her awesome beauty.  As you know she is the main actor in the popular series, of which I am a fan, Scandal.  The actress recently had a child and looked amazing on the cover.

Singer Ciara was the cover feature for the fitness magazine, Shape.  The magazine's focus was about the major weight loss the singer had, especially after giving birth. With two magazines "talking" about weight loss after birth you know how these types of articles can be inspiration for some.

This may seem to be so simple but it is a lot to "write home" about!

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
