Curvy Looks: The Full-Body Project - Leonard Nimoy

The late Leonard Nimoy "championed full-figured" women.  He wanted women with full-figured bodies to not worry about what others, i.e., society thought of their looks and just be the beautiful human beings who God created them to be.  He wanted them to "...be able to stand ... and present themselves to the world" just as they are.  How beautiful is that?!

I can't remember hearing about this book that the man who in my head will always and forever be Mr. Spock, "Live long and prosper", (had to write that out loud ~smile~) published!  Did you know this curvy divas?  The book is entitled Full-figured Bodies, and from the photographs I have seen so far, the women he portrayed in the book are absolutely phenomenal and defies the stigma of society's depiction of beauty.

Author, Natalie Angier, who wrote an introduction to the book said that Mr. Nimoy didn't like that most women felt bad about their own bodies ~sidenote: we do that don't we ladies?  We are our own worse critics, this writer included!~   In order to help the women of size get rid of the stigma of hating her own body and looks, and to see the beauty that each body type represented, he photographed these women in the nude, and  also sexily clad in lingerie and clothing, and the Full Body Project was born.

Let this be a reminder to all of us, to look at ourselves differently.  Do not find fault in the beauty that is you!  To Quote Christina Aguilera's lyrics "We are beautiful in every single way...".

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
