Me 'n My 'Fro ~ How I care my natural hair

Another protective style

There are just certain times when you have to "stay low" curvy divas (to coin a phrase) in order to take care of (or protect) something. Most times that something might be an individual; or your health; or even a body part (for the athletically inclined); or anything else of value to you personally!

In fact dear readers, for some women, their hair will be listed among their valuables. Our hair is what we consider a part of our beauty so why not?!  This is why once in a while, or as often as I do make the time to, I will do what some black women do with their hair, put it in a twist.  This is when you take a section of your hair, separate it into two strands, and wrap it together (like a braid). Twisting my hair gives it a break from always combing or brushing it; and my hair is also not left out to the elements, sun, wind, and other weather-related happenings that may cause damage to my hair.

What I also love about this look is that I can pin it up, to give me a different style-look.  I also untwist it and it becomes a "twist out"!  During one of my recent twist-outs, I text-messaged a photo of the look to one of my BFFs because we were talking about our hair;

When I shampoo, I have to use a conditioner to make my hair soft and help to retain moisture.  Have you ever heard the phrase, a Co-wash? That is when you use only a conditioner in your hair to moisturize and bring out your natural curls.  I do this quite often.  You've probably seen many YouTube hair videos or read that we should never go to bed without a satin scarf covering our hair. This does work because I have use one in the past. However, for me personally, it gets too bothersome and hot while I'm sleeping.  The one thing I do instead is to get two hair bands and put my hair into two ponytails, either separate on both sides, or one on top of the other.  That is all I need to do and when I wake up, a quick co-wash in the shower keeps my hair looking fantastic.

In my next hair article I will share some of the products I use.

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
