What Not To Wear: The Doobie-Wrap Hair Look

I was watching the AMAs last night, it was entertaining for me because I'm a big fan of Pitbull and was so happy to see him, a Latin American in that forum on the MIC - Man In Charge. (Yes I made that up).  The red carpet was interesting, I saw some great looks and some not so great looks.

I didn't see everyone though but man, now I'm glad I didn't because after I saw RiRi aka Rih Rih aka Rihanna on the stage accepting her music award, well, I almost fell off my chair!

I did a double-take and confirmed that yes, Ms. Rihanna was wearing an unfinished look at the  AMAs.  So aghast I was, I even tweeted it:

21hOnly can dare to wear that hair look in front of billions!!! U have to be black to know what I'm talking about...

My comment was a bit more demure...thinking maybe she forgot to take her hair down?  I mean, really RiRi?  That's the look we black women, some Latinas and maybe a few others that I have no idea of, do when we want our hair to remain, straight and smooth after getting our hair "did"!  It's called the doobie.  The look we get when we need a "Wrap".  The look we wear when we are not ready to wear our locks down to our shoulders, or back. Whatever our style will be, this is the look we walk out of the hair salon with when we don't want our hair messed up prior to going to an event, or even to the office the next day!

But leave it to Rihanna, she has made it a finished look, placing be-dazzled bobby pins all around, I guess to make it more "proper"!  So much so now the VogueUK has called it a "faux-crop"!!??

Uh, uh, a faux-crop....SMH~   I won't knock it, she is free to do whatever she wants.  She looked good though, once you look beyond her faux-crop, be-dazzled bobby pins and all! Go RiRi, congrats on your VMA!

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
