What is True Plus Size?

I was reading Plus Model Magazine online at plus-model-mag.com and clicked on a link to one of their articles entitled:  "Plus size model Robyn Lawley is hot! hot! hot! in Australian Cosmopolitan Magazine" I was excited to see this plus-sized maven who was wowing the Australian market!  I clicked and saw a very pretty    beautiful woman featured in the article!  She's a very striking woman, and I can see the attraction!  But her size left me non-plussed!  I expected to see a larger sized woman staring back at me, but nope, this was one of the photographs of her!

I'm not sure what to think?!  I'm happy for her, she's doing well in her field, she is as I said very attractive, but plus sized?  What?!!! Once again, not only are we getting bad names from stores who think our sizes are not worth the bother in carrying, but we're also getting gypped by the size of the women who are supposed to be larger than the regular sized model to be called plus size.  No wonder a true-size individual who would be considered plus sized, can't get representation as a model, because there is the societal ideal as to what plus size is!

Their* (Society = Designers, Model Agencies, Magazines*) ideal is a size 12 or 14, barely there belly fat, not even a dimple on the thighs!  I don't know curvy divas, this is a sad day in Plus-size-land!

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
