Curvy or Model-thin..what's your fantasy?

We know that in our Society today, the woman who is model-thin, a size 0 is the ideal for designers, and also for some men.  They don't want women who look even remotely like they have eaten, or that they do eat!  How in the heck did they come by this standard anyway? How did designers create this as the normal?  Because these designers used those mannequins! The mannequins being without any particular shapes at those times, (years ago) seem to make their clothing fit better.  This form appealed to the aesthetics of the ones designing their clothing.  That is why they have made this the normal requirement for women, to be that thin, unrealistically so!  These ideals, and Society's embracing of them, are what have caused anorexia and bulimia in young girls and women!
Plus Model Magazine featured an article in January 2012 about our bodies and what's wrong with  it? (NOTHING!)

Then we have the other end of the spectrum curvy divas, the full-figured woman.  Her size can go from being pleasantly plump, to really large which would be considered obese, by Society's standard.  While no woman wants to be like this, unfortunately, not all of us can be model-thin.  The make up of women, their genomes and lifestyle can dictate how some women's bodies are.

Sure we're not going to love our nose, the shape of our legs, or our thighs, hey, that is our prerogative right?  What we each have to do is to learn to love ourselves as we are. Whatever we don't like, we can make better so that we love ourselves more.  But when you do this, you do it for you, not for what anyone, especially Society, dictates.  We decide for ourselves, not your best friend, not the magazine, or anyone else!

So go ahead, live out your fantasy. Take the time to look and feel the way you want to.  Be the sexy siren, or the darling debutante, just make the time to bring out the beautiful in you.  You would be surprise how just by putting on a little lipstick and styling your hair boosts your confidence and help you to put your best foot forward!  Be confident, feel special and be happy!

Me 'n My 'Fro: On Being Natural - How it began

I mentioned the first article I wrote   about my hair that I would share with you my hair journey curvy divas. For the next couple of Wednesdays, that is what I will do on this blog.  If you are black aka African American as we say here in the United States (technically, I'm Caribbean-American), you know the ins and outs of our hair journeys. The success, when you rock your hair and look fierce; the woes, when you just give up and put on a hat!lol! And even wear a hat, just because you wanna rock that new hat!   I have always had what some called "a head full of hair", so much that the authenticity of my hair came into question quite a couple of times.  My mom loved to style our hair (my sisters and me) and would always have her girls looking beautiful in ribbons and hair clips where ever we went!   There are two incidents I remember distinctly, as a child, and as an adult.  Once in Primary school (that is Elementary here in the USA), a teach...

Fabulously Curvy Nominated for The Liebster Award

Fabulously Curvy has been nominated by a fellow Blogger whom we love to follow, our local royalty, Princess Kaija of the blog, The Life and Adventures of Princess Kaija .  She was also nominated for her work and as graciously given me the nod which we gladly accept. We love the adventure of getting "out and about" and meeting new bloggers and writers and we gladly follow back.  Thank you Kaija for thinking us worthy of the Liebster Awards . Forgive us for the late "acceptance speech".  Life has been inundated with family-life, exams & presentations, since we're in the world of students again, and research for our new looks on the blog.

Found: The TShirt Dress

I found myself at the Mall of Millenia, a high-end mall the other day, Amanda and I went on a little adventure at which I was very excited. This mall is a bit farther away from us so we don't get there as often. It was about time I visited H&M...oh my love for that store has increased!!!  While I was there, I wanted to grab a handful of clothing and run to the fitting room, but I had a hard time finding my size.  Where were the larger sizes for us curvy girls??!!  I thought there was a sectioned for plus size-didn't see if one and couldn't find sizes for me. Jersey Maxi Dress w/raw edges at arms & slit It was a busy place so I couldn't ask anyone who worked there (I saw so few employees), but the store was pretty busy... however after looking around, I saw a dress I liked, a large was the largest size, I picked one in each color, a black and a grey;  it was a tee-shirt style, cotton-jersey material; with a round neckline and a slit that had me won...
